IPA Day Celebrations

The City of Petaluma surprised us with an Official Proclamation designating the First Thursday in August as Lagunitas IPA Day. For real? For real!

A Day To Remember

The City of Petaluma presented the phenomenal proclamation of Lagunitas IPA Day – the first Thursday in August – to Lagunitas CEO Dennis Peek.

IPA Day Brews

The wizard brewers of Lagunitas Petaluma invented a brand-spankin’-new style of IPA just for IPA Day – Dip Trip, Free Ride IPA! Why did we call it a Free Ride IPA? Its all about the process: First, we took a mega IPA base and hop-dipped it (or pre-soaked the hops like tea to remove the scratchiness) with Simcoe & Citra. Then, it was fermented with a special, fruit-forward sparkling wine yeast, Viva, without any of the cooling control (AKA Free Rise-style). Finally, we dry-hopped Dip Trip with the über-pineapple-y Sultana, Nectaron & Bru-1 hops…It’s a strange and tropical ride!

Meanwhile 800 miles north of Petaluma, Lagunitas Seattle Brew Master Dan teamed up with our friends at Yakima Chief Hops to brew a special #IPAday IPA that we’re calling Friends in Grow Places. It’s chock-full of some of Yakima’s finest grapefruit-ish Simcoe, citrus-y Citra, tropicalian Idaho 7, and the experimental, mango-guava-esque HBC-586 hops. Check out more of this story below.
